What happens if you have too many white blood cells in your body?

Well i had to go to the doctor yesterday because i had a fever and really bad headache that caused lots of pain. As a result i had to give a blood sample. The doctor called today to say that I have too many white blood cells in my body. I asked what that meant, and they said in infection. But i don’t think that they know what type of infection, so they called me in to give an urine sample today, and another blood sample in 2 weeks.

Is something going on in your body when you have “pre-diabetes”?

Question by Slippery Sally!: Is something going on in your body when you have “pre-diabetes”?
I am a little confused at this concept. I know that when you are diagnosed as a diabetic your pancreas is not working correctly. But is something actually going on in your pancreas if you are diagnosed with “pre-diabetes”? Is pre-diabetes a real live medical condition in which things are wrong in your body? Thanks!

I’ve never heard of anyone being diagnosed as “pre-diabetic”. I’m guessing (based on the fact I live with a diabetic), that the diagnosis simply means your blood sugar levels are high and can possibly be controlled by diet & lifestyle changes.
