Question by Luke Skywalker: There’s no such parameter as “the blood pressure”?
A question to those who talk about “high blood pressure” or “low blood pressure”.
Is 150/90 higher or lower than 160/80? and if the third reading is 140/100, has “the blood pressure” risen? -or fallen?
What about 170/70? and 180/60? All these readings are actual, genuine clinical readings from a patient’s 24 hr. monitor record. He’s healthy and happy as clam.
I know exactly what each reading tells, how it comes about, and why.
Do you?
Thanks Wander Wonder. I’m grateful for your reply, but I didn’t ask if my patient was better off. Since I know there’s no such animal as “the blood pressure” therefore “it” can’t either rise or fall, what answerers would say. Your answer and caveat “exactly” doesn’t take the argument very much further forward, I think you”ll agree? I’m not being hostile. This is a most serious question, I assure you.
and if it “hasn’t exactly risen or fallen” what do you think it is? Please, – a number?
Mago, – thanks, I’m grateful, – but could you answer the questions? I didn’t want an opinion on the patient’s health (he’s actully a Cardiologist!). I simply asked the questions….perfectly reasonable, simple questions.

In each of these instances the blood pressure has not exactly risen or fallen. If the systolic goes down and the diastolic goes up you’re really no better off since that means even between beats your heart is exerting too much pressure, such as 140/100.
What do you think? Answer below!
