Question by SoupSoup: Doctor did a blood cell count, is that a viable test for anemia?
I went in to get my first blood test done. I’m having a variety of symptoms that have been present for some time now. One of the possible culprits is anemia, which as well runs in my family.
The doctor drew a quick sample of blood and checked what he called my “blood cell count” which he said was normal. Did this all in about 2 minutes and ruled out anemia.
Is this a trustworthy result that I do not have anemia? I was hoping that the lab would do the confirmation. I really don’t know the specifics and would just like to be certain.
I am still waiting for my results from the lab for a variety of other things, just wanted to make sure as anemia seemed to match most of my symptoms.
They did a quick finger prick test, he came back in about 1 minute and said no to anemia.
I’m going in soon to get the blood test, on the sheet I am marked for 4 different tests. Cholesterol, glucose(diabetes) and thyroid t3 / t4

YES YOU NEED TO HAVE A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF RED BLOOD CELLS IF THEY ARE TOO LOW YOU ARE ANEMIC.
