What should a blood clot look like following a tooth extraction?

I had a tooth pulled today and I’m nervous about dry socket. What is the blood clot supposed to look like?

It would be REALLY hard for you to visually tell if you had a dry socket. The clot is way down there. Best thing to do is to just follow the instructions for gently caring for it. And NO SMOKING or Tobacco! A normal socket will be dark red or whitish covering the dark red. But again, I don’t know how you could really see this without a dental light and mouth mirror.

The extraction site will have a yellowish covering as it is healing. This is normal. Dry socket most often occurs with lower wisdom teeth and can best be prevented by avoiding smoking (which slows healing). Dry socket occurs several days or even 1 week after the extraction, not right after. Hope this helps.
